I’ve been on a Korean cuisine kick lately. I think it has a lot to do with living near an HMart– we’ve been buying lots of ingredients to make Korean recipes, with delicious success. It also helps that the salespeople often offer free samples while shopping so that you can try before you buy.
I don’t [...]

Caprese Stratas w/Basil, Tomato & Mozzarella
Posted in Italian, baked goods, brunches, dinners, recipes, regional on Jan 23rd, 2010
This recipe was passed along to me by my sweetie Dragonia. It’s definitely not the sort of thing Jack and I usually eat around the House of Cards, but I was intrigued by the use of nutmeg in conjunction with bruschetta-like ingredients, and it made for a nice change-up. Depending on your own culinary history, [...]

We discussed lamb stew at the Amber Horizons-SL Halloween Party, in sufficient detail that I simply had to follow through. Was going food shopping anyway…

Pasta With Poached Egg, and the Demise of Gourmet
Posted in dinners, pasta, recipes, ruminations on Oct 7th, 2009
I haven’t had success with making a proper pasta carbonara– I end up scrambling the eggs. This recipe seemed like a good compromise– I do like a good poached egg. This is quick to make, too.
Serves 1-2
Ingredients:
2 slices of bacon, cut into pieces (I used turkey bacon)
1/4 lb. spaghetti (I used whole wheat)
1/2 tablespoon butter
1/3 [...]
“Why don’t you make the dishes your mom makes?” is a question I get from Lipby every time we come home from a dinner at my parents’. My mom is a great cook, and a hard act to follow. Her Japanese dishes always elicit a sigh from me when I taste them– it’s comfort food, [...]
I like to cook with my slow cooker, but somehow I never remember to use it in the wintertime, when I crave soups and stews. I’m trying to rectify that now. This curry was a big hit, and I expect it will made again while the weather is still cold.
This is adapted from the Cooking [...]
Sorry I haven’t put up my comfort food story yet. (Thanks to everyone who answered the poll!) I haven’t had a chance to make it, although it would’ve been perfect to have this week, which has been cold, wet and rainy. I promise I’ll post it soon.
In the meantime, here’s a post I had meant [...]

I’ll bet you were wondering when there would be a post about sticky rice. Well, here it is.
I had this strange craving for kimbap lately– I don’t know why. There used to be a Korean grocery store where I lived a while ago that would sell kimbap wrapped in plastic at their [...]
Chicken Pot Pies

Gridley rocks the house by sending in our first recipe to our new site! He is a good friend and neighbor, and a good cook to boot. I keep saying he and K should invite us over to dinner– and we’d be happy to reciprocate!
Here’s his awesome chicken pot pie recipe that I begged him [...]
